IBM® SPSS® Statistics 19 is available. Compatibility and other issues are addressed.

Known issues

At time of publication, the following issues were known.

JAWS® screen reading software doesn't work on 64–bit Microsoft® Windows®.
SPSS Statistics running on 64-bit Windows does not support JAWS. You will need a machine with 32–bit Windows to use JAWS with SPSS Statistics.

In non-Western locales you may experience problems when you select Open Database from the File menu.
Change the character encoding to Unicode. Select Options from the Edit menu and on the General Tab look for the Character Encoding group box. Select Unicode and click OK.

When you launch SPSS Statistics for the first time, you may get an error about side-by-side configuration. This is more likely to happen on slower hardware.
Close the error message and launch the application again.
SPSS Statistics won't start when installed on 64–bit Windows with a network license.
The problem may be due to a missing Visual C++® library. You can correct the problem by running vcredist_x64.exe. In Windows Explorer go to the location in which you installed SPSS Statistics and locate the VC8 subfolder. Double-click vcredist_x64.exe. Then locate the VC9 subfolder. Double-click vcredist_x64.exe. Now launch SPSS Statistics.
Mac OS silent installer is not included on the DVD.
The installation instructions incorrectly state that the Mac OS silent installer, SPSS_Statistics_Installer_Silent.bin, is included on the DVD in /MacOS/Administration. This file is not on the DVD, but you can download it this file from http://support.spss.com.

When you create Model Viewer Output you may initially see an error message about a "null pointer" in the Output window.
Just double-click the error message. Usually the Model Viewer Output will display.
Stopping the Exact Tests feature while in Distributed Mode and connected to an SPSS Statistics Server running on UNIX® may abruptly end your session.
Please do not select Stop Processor on the File menu while you are running Exact Tests with SPSS Statistics Server running on UNIX. Please wait for Exact Tests to finish.

Syntax files can be saved in Unicode or in the local code page (local encoding).
In most cases, when you open a file in the syntax window, SPSS Statistics automatically determines the correct encoding. Sometimes it will be wrong. If you see three funny characters at the start of the file, close it and reopen specifying Unicode. If the contents look scrambled, try a different encoding setting. If it still looks wrong, your SPSS Statistics locale may be different from the way the file was saved. Use an appropriate SET LOCALE command to resolve this.

You may get an error when writing files directly to the My Documents folder on Windows Vista and Windows 7.
When you use SPSS Statistics to write files directly to the My Documents folder (for example, when exporting output to PowerPoint), you may get an error. To correct the problem, write the file to another location. Note that you can write the file to a subfolder in the My Documents folder.
While in Distributed Mode and connected to an SPSS Statistics Server running on HP-UX or Solaris™, you cannot connect to IBM SPSS Collaboration and Deployment Services using a single sign-on provider.
When you launch the online help, the Help Contents pane may be blank.
Refresh the browser display by pressing Ctrl+R (Windows and Linux®) or Command+R (Mac OS®).
In rare circumstances, the help may consistently fail to launch.
Shut down SPSS Statistics and delete the help configuration folder:
- Windows XP. Delete C:\Documents and Settings\<user>\Application Data\Eclipse\com.ibm.spss.statistics.help_19.
- Windows Vista and 7. Delete C:\Users\<user>\Application Data\Eclipse\com.ibm.spss.statistics.help_19.
- Linux. Delete ~/.eclipse/com.ibm.spss.statistics.help_19.
- Mac OS. In Finder, press Shift+Command+G. Type ~/.eclipse and click Go. Drag com.ibm.spss.statistics.help_19 to the Trash. Then empty the Trash.
